UPS and FedEx: The Ground War

The unofficial creed of the U.S. Postal Service assures us that ”neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” But as the USPS suffers another round of downsizing this summer, the gloom of cutbacks looks ready to finally do just that. The surging sales at e-commerce titans like Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Ebay (NASDAQ: EBAY) are providing a boost to the delivery industry, but it’s a boost that the USPS won’t get to take advantage of.
